Jenni Catherine Is that even possible?

Ay Sal It's already been done. Jesus prayed for the salvation of the men that tortured and killed him, while they were doing it.
What he did is so incredible that many people think His story is not credible.

Jenni Catherine So if only someone like Jesus is capable of true love, does that make regular human love false?

Ay Sal If it's not true, then it isn't true. It is what it is.
I define love as i see it, i.e., unconditional empathy and forgiveness - anything less is conditional. On the other side of that "condition" is always fear, anger and hate....See more

Jenni Catherine Ok, but I was just following your line of thinking, considering how Jesus was the only example you could think of, which suggests there's something different about him.
Also, a lot of Christians might claim to 'love' Jesus, would that love be "self-serving affection" do you think?

Ay Sal Absolutely. Of Course. That used to be me all over. My relationships with other people has always been an act of self-serving affection. Every ex-girlfriend of mine will vouch for what I am telling you - all I can say is trust me.

Even when i voluntarily went to church in the past, my affection was totally self-serving. I know because when I didn't feel appreciated by my church members: I left the church and dropped my self-serving faith too.

Now however i don't have a relationship with God or others for what i can get out of it... because I realised that God is going to love me no matter what: I have been gifted with unconditional empathy and forgiveness before I even knew I wanted it.

I am filled with His love which enables me to love, i.e., It's by His grace that i am able to love you and myself.

Without Him all i have is self-serving affection for other and even myself. Hence when i let myself down enough times - I used to wish i was dead.

It's like this: you can't give what you don't have. Try giving a homeless guy change with empty pockets. But with a heart filled with the love, i.e., unconditional forgiveness and empathy, from God, I have enough to give to others without conditions.

I hope that answers your question  <3
